North Sea Jazz Fest - Rotterdam Netherlands

Undoubtably the highlight of the trip, Netherlands was a perfect way to end the vacation and this is why:
-Amsterdam red light district! (ask no questions, ill tell you no lies)
-World Cup Final in Rotterdam @ the NSJF (if only they won!)
-Killer NSJF line-up: Stevie Wonder, Nas & Damian Marley, Joss Stone, Corinne Bailey Rae, Herbie Hangcock, THE ROOTS, AL GREEN, Earth Wind & Fire, Norah Jones and a hela lot more.


If you've never been to the original NSJF #myadvice2you, do it one day, its truly a music lovers dream and as you can see with the line-up above, don't let the word "Jazz" mislead you, its all just good soulful music. The NSJF is were i really got to bon with my third wife, my camera with its fancy lenses that got confiscated for looking too professional (yes im blinging!) but got smuggled back in in pieces. Its Been a Minute

Yo it's been a while since I last shared and Im actually itching especially after the month long trip to Europe which I came back from almost two months ago already - Saw a lot, experienced a lot and came back feeling really inspired but also more in love with this beautiful country called South Africa. The posts will be mixed, some will be from shit I found on the trip and others as normal will be shit I find everyday. So bear with me cause you will be hearing about the trip for a while. Please don't stop the music

I Dont like Rihanna. At all! Something about that big forehead that gets to me. But yo, check out Jamie Cullum's version of "Please don't stop the music", its off the hinges.


The version is off Jamies latest album, "The Persuit", got it yesterday and it is the shit! I have all his albums his except one, they're all brilliant but i have been waiting for him to match his second album, "Twenty something" and in this one he has.


And the video! My God its hot - that high definition technology has been utilized well here and kept simple but super duper chick & on the edgy.

The best find to date!

One of the the best combinations of form, function, innovation, design and beauty i have ever seen. Huge big up to Black Coffee.


For me this is the best find to date because it is hot on so many levels. The ladies may think this is a "whateverrr" find but understand my point of view, 1 dress, 12 or so styles (no other accompanying piece of clothing!). This means i could buy my boo one outfit a year but dress her at least once every month - talk about a gift that keeps giving!

Celebrating a true African maestro

After investing in the production last November, Jay-Z's Broadway musical, "Fela!," which was co-produced by Alicia Keys, Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith, has nabbed 11 nominations for this year's Tony Awards. 

I hope to see this in the near future...

The restless debt of the third world beauty

A lot of ya'll probably been knowing this for a minute but i just discovered that we have our very own Bansky, and her name is Faith47. I had seen a lot of her work prior but did not know it was her until Esther shared this find with the team in our "sharing is caring" portion of our weekly status meetings - thanks Estheeezy.

Bellow is a vid done for an exhibition Faith47 had in Berlin, it was titled “The restless debt of the third world beauty”

Faith wrote piece that went along with the exhibition which sums up the title nicely - read it.

“South Africa geographically is segregated in terms of class and race.
People live within their community without ever experiencing or interacting across their borders.
We remove ourselves from people and places that we do not experience at first hand.
They simply
do not exist.
This is not specific to South Africa but is reflected in the world at large.
We feel so far removed from each other but in reality we are so very close.

The restless debt of third world beauty
is my personal exploration into parts of the South African landscape that
juxtapose beauty and strength with hardship and neglect.

Both the female and the third world have been oppressed and raped.
Despite this they are powerfully resilient and form the backbone of strength in society.
Their voices silenced in the media with its strong western male gaze.

There is frustration and resistance that results from this situation.
And this restless debt is what I am looking at.
The resilience and strength.
The angry calm
silent shouts
something humble and bullet-proof in a violent world."

Daywalker

Had a chillout session with some friends this weekend. And as is the case, over braai's, in offices and boardrooms and restaurants across the country, one can never escape the names Zuma and Malema in any social gathering or informal conversation that lasts more than an hour.

I don’t know about you but sometimes i feel emotionally drained by the highs and lows of our leadership, and lately there seems to be more lows than highs - something which i think happens in most nations but still draining if you love your country.

However, if you ever feel despondent about the way things are going all you need is a dosage of Trevor Noah's Daywalker! The guys will make you laugh, and not just at our politicians but also at ourselves as South Africans. So when i got home after the discussions this weekend i popped in...The Daywalker.

If at times you forget, Daywalker will remind you why you love this country. It is Brilliant and everyone should own a copy!

Props to Trevor. I love comedy and as far as I'm concerned he is up there with the Kings of comedy such as the late Bernie Mac, Cedric The Entertainer and the rest of the gang.
